Âé¶¹AV's Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in 4-8 math prepares you for a career teaching a variety of mathematics subjects in grades 4-8. In order to ensure effectiveness, this program combines advanced math courses (calculus, statistics, geometry, etc.) with teacher training and classroom teaching practices.
This program focuses on content knowledge, content proficiency, strategies, communication skills and analytical skills to help you become the most knowledgeable teacher possible with access to the most current educational trends, methodologies and technologies. Graduates will receive a Texas teacher certification and be prepared for a dynamic and rewarding career.
Introduction to Teacher Education: An orientation to the organization and professional components of education in the United States with emphasis on Teacher Education in Texas.
Special Education Law: Students will develop an understanding of the legal requirements of special education law. This course will introduce students to seminal case law, including free appropriate public education, least restrictive environment, and assessment protocols for students with exceptionalities. Content also includes procedures pertinent to teachers providing special education services, such as federal and state regulations, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and the development of basic instructional programs.
History of Mathematics: Historical origin and development of mathematical concepts through the sixteenth century. Topics include Egyptian and Babylonian mathematics, Greek mathematics, and early European mathematics.
Elementary Geometry: The development of Euclidean geometry, introduction to proofs, concepts of measurement and co-ordinate geometry.
Introduction to Advanced Mathematics: This course provides introduction to logic and the basic methods of proof required to be successful in a proof oriented mathematics course. Students will study applications in basic set operations, relations, functions, cardinality, and the real number system to learn the basics of mathematics proofs.

The determines minimum salary schedules for educators statewide; it dictates that first-year teachers must be paid at least $28,080, and teachers with 20 or more years of experience must be paid at least $45,510.
