Texas Education Agency (TEA) has implemented “new” certifications and changes to the following certification areas: EC-12 Special Education (161), and Special Education Supplemental (163)
- “New” Special Education Specialist (186) exam that will launch September 2, 2025.
- The last administration for the EC-12 Special Education (161) exam and the Special Education Supplemental (163) exam will be August 31, 2025.
- The last date a candidate can be recommended for certification using passing scores on exam (161) or (163) is August 31, 2026. Candidates must apply with both Â鶹AV and TEA to be recommended for certification by August 31, 2026.
- If candidates do not meet the above Â鶹AV and TEA application deadlines, by August 31, 2026, they will take the new EC-12 Special Education Specialist (186) exam.
