Luciano Medina is a performer and educator based in East Texas currently teaching at Â鶹AV, Kilgore College, Angelina College, and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Medina champions contemporary music, having performed solos at the Future Traditions Fest and Ivester Contemporary through collaboration with the Austin-based new music ensemble, SoundMap, and at universities and conventions throughout Texas with his percussion trio, Blue Door Percussion. His other interests lie in non-western traditions, having studied traditions that span Latin America, including Trinidad, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. He wishes to combine these two passions not only in his teaching but with his saxophone and percussion duo Nixta. After collaborating with Austin-based composer Max Franko, Nixta premiered a piece for alto saxophone, steel pan, and assortment of woodblocks and found metals.

Medina wishes to continue creating intimate concert-going experiences and providing an outlet for underrepresented voices.
