Wagner Mauricio Pástor is an Ecuadorian tenor, voice educator, conductor, and scholar whose career bridges opera, musical theatre, commercial music, and Latin American vocal traditions. He has appeared with organizations including Portland Opera, American Spiritual Ensemble, National Chorale, Kentucky Opera, Fort Wayne Philharmonic Players Association, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Saratoga, the Ecuador National Symphony Orchestra, and Teatro Nacional Sucre. His operatic repertoire includes leading roles such as Alfredo in La Traviata, Werther in Werther, Don José in Carmen, and Rodolfo in La Bohème.
A prize-winning artist, Pástor received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Kentucky District and has earned recognition in national and international competitions, including second place in the London International Music Competition and finalist honors in the Detroit Opera Aria Competition.
Pástor holds a Bachelor in Arts from the Conservatorio Superior Nacional de Música del Ecuador, a Master of Music from the University of Idaho, a Professional Artist Certificate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Kentucky. He currently studies privately with Robin Rice and Bethany Self at Rice University.
Pástor has made significant contributions to Hispanic cultural life and arts education. Since 2023, he has founded and conducted the first Hispanic-themed community choir in his Indiana community, developing the ensemble through collaborations with the Indiana Arts Council, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, and Heartland Sings. His commitment to cultural outreach also includes master classes in Ecuador for Fundación Cultural Armonía and Universidad Central del Ecuador.
As an educator, performer, and arts leader, Pástor serves as Vice President of Musical Theatre and Commercial Music Auditions for Greater Houston NATS. He is a member of AGMA, CMS, NOA, Opera America, AFM, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Fort Wayne, and is a frequent featured artist, performer, and writer for AGMA. His interests include classical voice, musical theatre, commercial music, and Latin American traditions. He is honored to guide singers of all levels and inspire them to share their unique voices and artistry. He maintains a private voice studio in Houston.
