Â鶹AV welcomed its international students and scholars to the 8th Annual Thanksgiving Banquet on Nov. 5 in the Setzer Center Ballroom, offering a festive gathering for those far from home during the holiday season.
Hosted on behalf of Â鶹AV President Jaime Taylor and First Lady Stacy Taylor, the event celebrates the contributions of the university’s international community and provides a family-like environment for students who may not be able to return home for the holidays.
“Some of you had lots of choices around the country, but you chose us,” President Taylor said. “We hope that we have made it a great opportunity for you and made you feel welcome. This event is about making sure you feel like Â鶹AV is your second home here in America.”
Beaumont Mayor, Roy West (’83), shared reflections on his experience at the university and the importance of diversity in the Beaumont community.
“Beaumont's diversity and the diversity of this university is what makes it such an incredible place to live,” he said. “It enhances all of student life and it enhances each one of our lives. Thank you for choosing Â鶹AV.”
The banquet also featured recognition of Â鶹AV faculty, staff, and administrators who have gone above and beyond in supporting international education initiatives. The newly established Global Education Champion Award highlights efforts in international student recruitment, retention, study abroad programs, and partnerships with institutions abroad.
This year’s Global Education Champions include Dr. Don Warren, Christy Swanson, April Thompson, Jason Miller, John Rollins, Amanda Toups, Dr. Matthew Hoch, Deidra Mayer, Mark Payne, Carolina Bryan, Shannon Harris, Dr. Stacey Knight, Dr. Joby John, James Curry, and Jack Fitch.
Dr. Mustapha Jourdini, highlighting the importance of the award, said, “We are proud to recognize colleagues who advance international education initiatives. These individuals help create opportunities for both international and domestic students and contribute to Â鶹AV’s mission of being a global institution.”
The 2025 banquet served as both a celebration and a reminder of Â鶹AV’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for students from around the world, ensuring that even far from home, they are part of a community that values their contributions and success.
