How to Upload an Image

In order to use an image on your webpage you must upload them to the CMS first.

Uploading an image to Cascade CMS is done by using the red plus sign for adding content. This method ensures that the appropriate metadata is included with the image, making it search-engine friendly, and 508 compliant for visitors with disabilities.

Instructions

  1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the _files folder. Then click on the images folder or a subfolder within the images folder.

Select a folder by hovering over the asset name and clicking on the arrow (>) that appears to the right of the asset name. The contents of that folder will display on the right hand side of the page.

  2. Look for the red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on Add Content.  Choose the image asset.

  3. Drag and drop an image from somewhere on your computer into the browser window, or choose one from your computer. The File Name will automatically populate with the file name previously given to the image.

    Upload Window

    • Make sure the image file name is descriptive and SEO friendly.
    • File names should be all lowercase with a dash between each word. (example-image-name.jpg).
    • Images must be 300KB or less in size
    • Fill in the Display Name and Title for image description

The purpose of Alternative Text (Image Description) is to provide a description of the contents of an image file. One of the most common uses of Alternative Text is to provide text for visitors who can't see images in their browsers and are relying on screen readers.

  4. Click Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the image to the CMS.

  5. The image has been successfully saved to the CMS. Once the image is used on a page that is sent through workflow the image will be published.

Images uploaded to the CMS can be inserted into a page via a WYSIWYG editor by clicking on the Insert/edit Image button.
